Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in India: Launch of SEHER Credit Education Program

The Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) and TransUnion CIBIL have joined forces to launch SEHER, a groundbreaking credit education program aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in India. This initiative is designed to provide women with the financial literacy and business skills necessary to access the tools needed for growth and job creation in the country’s economy.

SEHER is part of WEP’s Financing Women Collaborative (FWC), a pioneering effort to accelerate access to finance for women entrepreneurs. The program was inaugurated by key dignitaries including Ms. Anna Roy, Mission Director of WEP and Principal Economic Adviser at NITI Aayog, along with representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Indian Banks’ Association, Reserve Bank of India, Ministry of MSME, and TransUnion CIBIL.

Ms. Anna Roy emphasized the importance of financial awareness for MSME development and highlighted WEP’s commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs through various pillars such as entrepreneurship promotion, access to finance, training, mentoring, and networking.

Mr. Rajesh Kumar, MD and CEO of TransUnion CIBIL, expressed pride in partnering with WEP on this initiative to empower women entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds. He emphasized the crucial role of credit access, credit awareness, and financial literacy in driving business growth and supporting India’s economic goals.

With the aim of accelerating women-owned businesses and entrepreneurship, SEHER will provide women entrepreneurs with personalized resources and tools, including financial literacy content. The program seeks to educate women across the country on the importance of building a good credit history and CIBIL score to facilitate easier access to finance.

TransUnion CIBIL data insights reveal a significant increase in the demand for business loans by women over the past five years, indicating a growing trend of women borrowers in the market. As women-led businesses continue to expand, initiatives like SEHER play a crucial role in ensuring their sustained growth by providing them with the necessary financial knowledge and skills.
