Rudy Giuliani’s Bankruptcy Case Thrown Out; $148 Million Defamation Judgement Now Enforceable: US News: Latin Post

Judge Throws Out Rudy Giuliani’s Bankruptcy Claims, Orders Payment to Defamed Election Workers

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani’s bankruptcy claims have been thrown out by a judge in New York, following a chaotic hearing where Giuliani was threatened with jail time. The judge’s decision means that the two Georgia election workers, Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman, who Giuliani defamed, can now collect the $148 million judgment that he owes them.

Judge Sean Lane not only dismissed Giuliani’s case but also imposed a one-year ban on him from refiling any bankruptcy claims, stating that it was in the best interest of Giuliani’s creditors. The judge criticized Giuliani for his failure to meet reporting obligations and provide financial transparency as required of a debtor in possession.

Giuliani’s creditors, particularly Moss and Freeman, have pointed out that despite filing for bankruptcy, Giuliani continued to live a lavish lifestyle. The two Georgia women were falsely accused by Giuliani, then a lawyer for Donald Trump, of helping Joe Biden cheat in the elections without any evidence. They won a defamation lawsuit against him and were awarded $149 million, leading to Giuliani filing for bankruptcy.

With the dismissal of the bankruptcy case, Moss and Freeman are now able to enforce their judgment against Giuliani. Their lawyer, Rachel Strickland, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that they were pleased the court saw through Giuliani’s actions and put a stop to his abuse of the bankruptcy proceeding.

Judge Lane had warned Giuliani about his conduct leading to the case being dismissed, citing uncooperative behavior, self-dealing, and a lack of transparency. The chaotic hearing that preceded the dismissal saw Giuliani being threatened with jail time, muted for interrupting the trial, and facing accusations of bankruptcy crimes from Moss and Freeman’s lawyer.

The dismissal of Giuliani’s bankruptcy claims marks a significant development in the legal battle between the former mayor and the two Georgia election workers. As they move forward to collect the judgment owed to them, Giuliani faces the consequences of his actions and the repercussions of his defamation against Moss and Freeman.
